Special Interest Groups

Our current offerings are listed below. The smaller groups allow members to meet people in a more personal setting than the monthly meetings and at the same time enjoy a common interest together.

We want to emphasize that special interest groups make our club stimulating and rewarding. If you would like to start a special interest group at any time during our year, please email info@granbynewcomers.com. Some ideas would be: quilting, hiking, wine tasting, etc.

Women's Wine Night Club

Contact:
Cairene Perrin (653-3876)

Women's Wine Club meets for an evening of wine tasting, socializing, and great food. This group will meet on the 4th Thursday of every month at volunteer host's homes. Each attendee will bring either a bottle of wine or an appetizer to share. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the company of current friends. Please feel free to bring a friend or two along as the more the merrier!

News:

This month’s Women and Wine will be Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 pm. Michele Frost will be hosting and lives at 135 Higley Road., West Granby. We will be tasting Spanish wines.
Please RSVP to Michele at 413-9623 by May 20.

Movie Nights Club
Contact: Regina Jahrstorfer (844-0272)

Interested members gather to watch a movie either in a member home or out at the theater. Movie night is a great way to get together with friends. Bring your favorite beverage & nibbles and why not bring your lap needle project? If you can tear yourself away from the movie it will be a great opportunity for you to spend time on your project.
We will meet on the first Tuesday of every month. If the movie was based on a book, often members will read the book before the movie night. Reading NOT required!

News:

Information on the next Movie Night will be provided at the May meeting or you can Regina directly if you’re unable to attend the meeting.

Bunko Club
Contact: Regina Jahrstorfer (844-0272)

Never played the game before and don’t have a clue how it works? Don’t worry! Come and learn! Bunko is a fun dice game that doesn’t require any special skills....just roll the dice and have fun!

News:

The bunko date for May is set for Friday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Stacie Truntz’s house - 18 Pheasant Run, North Granby. Don’t worry if you’ve never played the game - it’s easy to learn and a fun night out.

We will (of course) be continuing bunko over the summer months. PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to be added to the bunko e-mail list, and receive info on our summer bunko nights, please let me know. I will not be sending them as a mass e-mail. For you regulars who are already on my distribution list (and you know who you are), you’ll continue to get e-mails from me over the summer months. Keep the dice rolling!

Please RSVP Stacie at 653-5424

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These Clubs have been Newcomers favorites for years but do not have leaders for this year. Please contact the club president to restart any of these groups.

Book Club
Interested members gather monthly off-site (at members’ homes on a rotating basis) to discuss an agreed-upon book. Titles are announced at the general meetings and in the monthly newsletter. The book is not all we discuss... come join us for some food and great conversation!

Stitch and B____ Club!
This monthly craft night is the perfect opportunity to work on your "UFOs" (Unfinished Objects). Bring your project materials to rotating members homes for a fun night out with the girls. Project ideas to consider bringing are: cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, sewing/quilting, scrapbooking, etc.

Gourmet Club
Do you like to cook? Do you like to try new foods? Do you and your husband need a night out? Then, Gourmet is right for you! Gourmet will give you a chance to meet new people and enjoy great food. Groups of 6-10 people (typically couples) meet at an assigned member's home for a variety of dinners throughout the season. The season runs from October through June. Members each prepare a different course of the meal and then come together and enjoy. All costs are shared equally among the participants. For those of you who wish to be full-time members, (attending 5 or more dinners), the fee will be $15 for the year. For those of you who wish to be part-time members, (attending 4 or less dinners), the fee will be $7.50 for the year. These fees cover beverages, paper goods, and mailing costs.
