  Meet the Board of Directors
and
Special Interest Group Leaders:

  2009/2010:

Regina Jahrstorfer -President- I moved to Granby in 2004 with my husband John and my daughter Sara (age 8). I was raised in the south and have lived in New York State. I am an RN and work full time in ECHN's IT Department. I am a new Connecticutite (my husband was born and raised here). I think being part of a community is so important. I have had such great experiences with newcomers in other places that I quickly joined in Granby. I was not disappointed. I found this to be a quick way to get connected and learn about this wonderful area. I have met so many new friends and have had so much fun that I am now on the board.

Cori Griswold- First Vice President 1(membership)- My husband, Marc, and I moved to Granby in 2005 after living in Northern Virginia for 12 years. We grew up in Western Massachusetts and couldn't wait to get back to the area! We have two boys, ages 9 and 3, and we're so happy to be raising them here. I joined GNNC shortly after moving here to find some community and friends - this was a big deal for me because I'm generally very shy meeting new people. It took everything I had to walk into the meeting all by myself. I am *so glad* I did! I've met so many great women and have done so many fun things - I encourage you to check us out!

OPEN POSITION - First Vice President 2 (membership)-

Kellie Rossi- Second Vice President 1 (programs) -

Val Crowell- Treasurer - I grew up on the “other” side of the river, in Vernon, CT.  When my soon-to-be husband and I began house-hunting we focused on the Granby area. We chose this area because my husband had lived in various towns on this side of the river and he thought this would be the best place to live. 18 years later and we’re still here, so he was right!  My work at the time had me traveling around the country, so I didn’t feel like I really was a part of Granby.  Now that I work in Simsbury I wanted to become a part of Granby by meeting my “neighbors”.  I worked with a few people who were members of Newcomers and they had nothing but good things to say about the club.  So I came to a meeting, and now (in only my 2nd year), I’m a board member.  The monthly meetings are a great way to meet new people, learn new things, or try fun activities. I look forward to the upcoming year and encourage anyone to come check us out, have some fun and meet a great group of women.

Diana Stephens- Secretary - Diana, husband Roy and daughter Brianna (age 11) moved to East Granby, CT in 2007 along with two miniature long-hair Dachshunds and two white Silkie chickens. We are native Texans (San Antonio) who moved to West Hartford, CT in 2005 by way of Sacramento, CA.  Yeah, we've moved alot... and I was really missing all the friends I'd made along the way.  I joined GNCC in 2008, on the recommendation of Cori (a co-worker).  Being the busy, professional/mom, I didn't want 'one more thing added to my calendar', if you know what I mean.  However, I soon found that I looked forward to our meetings, programs and outings. It is sooo much fun!! I really enjoy this band of fun, organized, zany, brilliant women!! Everyone is very accomplished, community and family oriented.  I'm so glad I belong to this supportive, caring, friendly group!

  Special Interest Group Leaders:

Regina Jahrstorfer - Movie Nights (Chix for Flix)- see president above

Jo-Ann Askew - Women and Wine Group- My husband David and I both moved back to Granby in 1995 after having been raised here. When it came time to buy a home and raise a family, we made the decision to stay in town, knowing all that Granby has to offer. I work for The Hartford Golf Club and I have steadily decreased my working hours as my family size has increased, and now work completely from home. I initially joined Newcomers to meet other mothers of young children. I have met a great group of women with friendships I hope will last a lifetime.

Cheryl Bliss - Scrapbooking- My husband, Jeff, and I have been blessed to live in Granby since we were married 28 years ago. Our daughter, Rebecca, is a junior at Gordon College in Wenham, MA majoring in Fine Arts and our son, Dustin, is a 7th grader at Granby Memorial Middle School. I am a Creative Memories consultant and I am excited to share my passion of scrapbooking. I look forward to organizing events and helping others preserve and celebrate their memories.

Jen Bolton - Children's Parties - My husband, Jeff, and I grew up in Windsor, CT. We moved to California for a couple of years and when we found out we were going to have our first child we wanted to move home. We moved to Granby in 2006.; I love the community and am thrilled we chose it to be home; for us and our kids.  Our son is nine and our daughter is six. I work part time at Salmon Brook Veterinary Hospital as well as the Farmington Valley YMCA.  I feel lucky to be able to spend so much time with my kids and volunteer so much at their schools.  Being part of Granby Newcomers and Neighbors has helped me to meet many other women in town.  We are a diverse group and our meetings and outings are always entertaining and rewarding.

Annmarie Sirotnak - Playgroups

Debbie Cramer - Bunko - I grew up in Simsbury and moved to Granby in 1998 when I married my husband Tim. We have 3 children - Evan, Sarah and Liam. I joined Granby Newcomers to get my oldest son (he's now 9!)involved in a playgroup and it was the best thing I ever did. I have met the nicest women through Newcomers. I have received so much from this group and hope to be able to give something back by volunteering for various board positions. I've enjoyed many of the special interest groups and my kids have loved the children's parties. I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces this year and meeting some new ones.

Debbie Cramer - TLC coordinator - see above

Ida Marie Gilmore - Socials - (see publicity section)

Mary Lou Dlugolenski & Julie Dehner - Mystery Bus Trip -

Karrie VanRyn & Amy Dunham - Photography Club

Amy Dunham - We moved to Granby in July of 2005 from South Windsor. I, along with my three children Anna, Samantha and Jacob are so glad we did. I was introduced to Granby Newcomers in February of 2006 through a couple of neighbors. The first meeting I attended was “Fondue Bingo” and I met a lot of women all of whom were warm, friendly and FUN. It’s been a great way to meet people, become connected to the community, become better informed on various topics and have a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to another great year.

Karrie VanRyn -

Jen Meier - Garden Club - (see publicity section)

Julie Dehner - Newsletter Director - My husband, Jeff, and I moved to Granby in 1999 through a comedy of errors, but loved the area so much we never left!  We have two children - Riley (6 1/2) and Eli (as he says, "four and five-sixths" as of this writing).  I work in the IT field - I was with Chubb Specialty Insurance in Simsbury for nearly eight years before switching over to CIGNA earlier this summer.  Being shy by nature, but wanting to both become more involved in our community and make new friends, I considered joining the Granby Newcomers for years before a couple of my neighbors practically forced me to attend my first meeting.  (Thank you Regina and Cori!!!)  The women I've met and the experiences we've shared have been fantastic, and I'm looking forward to another year!

Fiona Shackleton - Newsletter Distribution - I was born, raised and schooled in England and Scotland in the UK. My British husband and I have lived in the States since 1998; five years in the Bay Area, CA and 5 years in Granby, CT. We chose to live in Granby because of its rural beauty and because of the friendliness of the people who live here. We have a son, Dominic (4) and a daughter, Beatrix (1). Granby Newcomers comprises of a wonderful group of people who were my personal lifesavers as I adapted to life in Granby and the challenges that come along with being a new mummy. Through Newcomers I have met many fantastic people who I feel privileged to have as my friends. I am so glad that I made the decision to attend a meeting; one evening 4 years ago! I look forward to another memorable Newcomers year.

Director(s) of Publicity - Kate Roy, Ida Gilmore, Kris Roy, Jen Meier

Kate Roy - My husband Chris and I are Massachusetts natives who moved to Granby about five years ago, after living in two other Connecticut towns.  We love the area and we’re here to stay.  We have two children, Lauren, 6, and Owen, 4.  I am a freelance newspaper reporter and I work from home.  I also teach gymnastics part-time and make custom decorated cakes.  I just recently joined Newcomers because my work schedule hadn’t allowed me to attend the meetings up until now.  I’m really looking forward to spending more time with this fun group of ladies!

Ida Gilmore - I was born and raised in Connecticut. After living in Boston, MA, Charlotte, NC and Memphis, TN, my husband Justin and I moved back to CT in 2003 to raise our family. We chose Granby because we knew it would be a great town to raise our children, Maddie (5), Katie (2), and Declan (4 mos.). Initially, I joined GNNC to find a playgroup for my daughter...I found a playgroup for her and a great bunch of women that I love to spend time with!

Kris Roy -

Jen Meier - I grew up north of Philadelphia, and went to colleges in the Pittsburgh area; as a result I have quite a mixed accent. I moved to CT in 2001 to be with my husband, Craig. When I first moved to CT I hated it! The area we lived in wasn't very friendly. Then we moved to Granby in 2003, and I hope to never leave. My girlfriend and I initially joined Newcomers to get involved in a playgroup; these women are now some of my closest friends. I have a 5 year old daughter named Alexis and a 2 year old son named Andrew; both keep me VERY busy. I also work per diem as a physical therapist.

Doreen McWhirter -Web Master - I am an example of a Newcomer who is not so new to Granby. I grew up here, went off to college, and lived in New Hartford, CT for nine years. Then my husband, Greg, and I had a home built here! Being in town as an adult with a small child was a whole different world than my high school days. I initially joined Newcomers in 1998 to start my son in a playgroup and to meet other women in town. I continued to enjoy playgroup time (for mommy and boy) with my second and third sons. The GNNC monthly meetings are a fun night out. This club has such an array of activities that there is something for everyone - even if you only join one activity. I look forward to continuing as Web Master for this year.

Stacie Truntz -Director of Fundraising - I was born and raised in CT. My husband and I moved to Granby in May 2000 and 3 years later started our family. We now have 3 boys (Wyatt 6, Cameron 4, and Parker 9 months). Staying home with the boys has gotten me more involved in the town and I ended up joining New Comers (even though I really wasn’t a new comer) about 2 years ago. I have met so many wonderful women who I love to spend time with.

Aimee Menapace - Hospitality Coordinator - I moved to North Granby with my husband, Michael, and daughter, Marybeth, in June 2006. Our second daughter, Isabella, was born the following February just after her big sister turned 3. We decided to move to this area because of it's small-town feel and the village atmosphere of Granby Center. Quite simply, it seemed like a peaceful and warm place to settle and raise our family. When I joined Newcomers that first September, I knew few people in town and really wasn't sure what to expect. I was greeted warmly and was welcomed right away. I encourage anyone who is interested to come to a meeting and get a sense of what "Newcomers and Neighbors" is all about.
